Valor Tiltrotor Introduced At Army Association Annual Meeting

Wraps Taken Off V-280 Mockup

A full-size mockup of the V-280 Valor third generation tiltrotor mockup was unveiled Monday at the Association of the United States Army annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

The aircraft is being designed for the Joint Multi-Role Demonstrator and Future Vertical Lift programs.

Keith Flail, program director for Future Vertical Lift Military Programs at Bell, told Defense News that the aircraft is designed to fly twice as far and fast as conventional helicopters currently in use.

Bell says the aircraft can cruise at 280 knots with a combat range of 500 to 800 nautical miles.

The V-280 is in a detailed design phase. Assembly of the first flying aircraft will begin next year, with the first flight planned for September, 2017.
