Box Cutter Cancels Flight

Mechanic's Mistake Discovered in Boston

A week ago Tuesday, a first-class passenger reached into the "magazine pouch" in the seatback in front of her, and found... a box cutter knife. She notified the flight attendant, even as the "steerage" passengers were boarding; and that process stopped immediately.

For the next couple hours, passengers were deplaned and rescreened, as airline and security people wondered what had happened. None of the crew, nor any of the 80 PAX, had anything suspicious, so the flight left... three hours late.

The official story is that the knife had been left on the plane by a mechanic in Denver. How long it had been in that seat pouch, was not disclosed.
