Rolls-Royce & Aviall Launch Model 250 E-Pubs

Rolls-Royce Corporation and Aviall Services, Inc., (the exclusive distributor for genuine Rolls-Royce Model 250 parts), have launched a new range of electronic publications (E-Pubs) for the Model 250 engine family.

Developed in partnership with Command Technology, Inc. (CTI) of Groton, CT, the Model 250 E-Pubs technology provides a seamless e-commerce link to Aviall.com for the purchase of genuine Rolls-Royce parts. A simple ‘point and click’ graphics user interface allows users to easily navigate the document delivery system. The system’s parts configuration matrix provides users with instant access to all of the information related to an individual part (including Service Bulletins, Letters, etc.), together with an order button linked to Aviall.com. Model 250 E-Pubs now enable operators to locate and order all the parts required to support their engines with just a couple of mouse clicks.

Model 250 customers will have the choice of receiving these electronic publications via the World Wide Web, through a client/server or on CD-Rom. On-line access to Model 250 electronic publications will possible via Aviall.com. CTI has also incorporated functionality to allow users to access the E-Pubs database from their cell phones. For the future, CTI has also designed the system to be compatible with voice-activated wireless wearable computers with for data delivery anytime, anywhere.

Rolls-Royce has introduced this technology as part of its on-going efforts to develop cost-saving service offerings for its operators. In addition to delivering efficiency improvements, the Model 250 E-Pubs will dramatically reduce part transaction costs while improving order accuracy. An extensive six month evaluation of the E-Pubs technology jointly undertaken by CTI, Rolls-Royce and its Authorized Maintenance Center (AMC) network demonstrated the following:

  • An efficiency gain of 728 percent in product data retrieval time
  • 100 percent data retrieval accuracy (versus 71 percent for paper publications)
  • An average training time of only four minutes required for end users

CTI was able to build the 40,000 part e-commerce enabled relational database in less than 60 days, converting 90,000 pages of technical data for viewing on the world wide web. The new Model 250 E-Pubs website now provides a complete repository of technical data for all models of the engine family.

According to Tim McGrath, Rolls-Royce’s Director of Customer Support, “the move to offer electronic publications for the highly successful Model 250 engine family underscores the commitment of Rolls-Royce to meet the needs of our customers. Rolls-Royce is proud of the freedom of choice which it offers Model 250 operators through its Authorized Maintenance Center network, and the introduction of a range of electronic publication delivery options allows our customers to select the most suitable format to suite their individual requirements.

“With over 16,000 Model 250 engines in service with more than 4,000 customers in 130 nations around the world, we are acutely aware of the need to make our publications available to customers wherever and whenever required. We are confident that these electronic publications will prove to be a big hit.” The technology is available to all Rolls-Royce Model 250 owners, operators and AMCs, and costs less than the traditional paper-based documents that it replaces.
