Aero-TV At SnF2022: Titan Aircraft Shows off Scaled T-51

Titan Aircraft’s T-51 “Rooster” 75% Scale, 100% Fun

Mr. Len Bechtold, Titan T-51 Builder and Driver shared some details with us regarding the “ROOSTER” (FF-582) on display at Sun n Fun 2022. He began by stating that Titan Aircraft manufactures the kits for these aircraft, three quarter scale Mustangs. They are two-seaters with a variety of engine options, such as Rotax, up to this engine; this airplane has a Chevy LS3 V-8. There's a current engine of choice for each airplane.

He further stated that, “It's an all-metal airplane that comes as a kit that’s highly fabricated. Many of the difficult-to-make parts are already done at the factory”. Mr. Bechtold added that the airplane is a delight to fly, and he’s “been privileged to fly three or four different versions of these models to Oshkosh, but also coming to Sun n Fun”.

He remarked that “it's a very flyable airplane which is kind of unique for Mustang replicas. They have a reputation as being a hot rod, tricky to fly airplanes in the past. They are very flyable, enjoyable to fly airplanes”.  He commented that cruise speed on these airplanes ranges from about 100 to 160kts  depending on engine options, and that they’re “very good handling tail-dragger airplanes, probably the best family taildragger I've ever flown”.

Mr. Bechtold concluded that those two-place airplanes and the type factory is unique in the fact that “they're the only ones who have serially produced complete airplane kits, year after year, with the T-51 Mustang. They've got over 200 aircraft kits sold, and about 160 are flying worldwide." It’s a very mature kit line, and he’s a customer himself, currently building one, and feels privileged to be able to fly a number of different factory models of airplanes."
