WAI Hosts 10th Annual Girls in Aviation Day

Organization to Hold Nearly 200 Events Worldwide

On September 21, thousands of girls aged 8 to 18 will have the opportunity to participate in Women in Aviation International’s (WAI) 10th annual Girls in Aviation Day. This highly anticipated event will be hosted by WAI chapters and corporate members in 185 locations across the globe.

The Girls in Aviation Day tradition began in 2015 with 32 gatherings that attracted 3,200 participants. Since its inception, the event has grown significantly, reaching over 30,000 participants in 31 countries last year alone.

“In 2024, Women in Aviation International is thrilled to mark the 10th anniversary of Girls in Aviation Day,” commented WAI CEO Lynda Coffman.

The annual event is designed to inspire and encourage young women to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace. It features a variety of activities, such as hands-on workshops, educational sessions, and valuable networking opportunities with accomplished female industry professionals. The day not only highlights a range of career opportunities but also provides mentorship and role models for aspiring young women.

“Thanks to the generous support and efforts of our partners, Women in Aviation International has significantly expanded this one-day event to reach girls interested in aviation and aerospace year-round through our Aviation for Girls program,” continued Coffman. “We know Girls in Aviation Day has been instrumental in introducing opportunities in aviation and STEM to thousands of participants all around the world.”

The nearly 200 sessions will be held at various venues, including airports, FBOs, museums, and hangars, spanning 43 U.S. states, two U.S. territories, and 33 countries across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

For those unable to attend Girls in Aviation Day in person, WAI is offering a virtual version through their free Aviation for Girls app. This app provides year-round access to activities, informative content, instructional videos, and other resources.
