Spellman New CEO Of Champion Air

One of the country's largest charter service providers, Champion Air, has put Stephen M. Spellman in the pilot's seat. Spellman has been named president and chief executive officer effective immediately. He succeeds Mike Gerend who has recently resigned to take a position outside the industry.

"Champion Air is a tremendous company because of the people who are its heart and soul," said Spellman. "We will continue our focus on a product built upon the highest levels of safety, reliability and customer service. We have an enviable record of accomplishment in a demanding, competitive industry; I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the company as we build upon that record."

Spellman previously served as Champion's vice president & chief operating officer, a position he had held since 1999.

Spellman joined Champion Air in April 1997 as vice president & chief financial officer. Spellman's prior aviation experience also includes six years at Northwest Airlines, Inc. where he was responsible for financial analysis, aircraft leasing, and other corporate finance projects while working in the Financial Planning and Treasury divisions. Spellman was also employed as a senior auditor by Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
