CATSA Selects Airport Screening Companies

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority Taps G4S, Securitas To Provide Security Services

CATSA announced today that it has selected G4S as the Security Screening Contractor for the delivery of Airport Screening Services in the Pacific Region and Securitas to handle screening at airports in the Eastern Region.  G4S Secure Solutions (Canada) will provide services at 20 airports, including Vancouver International Airport. Securitas will handle duties at 32 airports.

Airline On-Time Performance Improves Over June Of Last Year

But Latest Figures Indicate Fewer On-Time Operations Than Were Reported The Previous Month

The nation’s largest airlines’ on-time arrival performance in June 2011 was an improvement from June 2010, but down from May 2011, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report released Tuesday by the U.S. DOT. Information filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) shows that the 16 carriers reporting on-time performance recorded an overall on-time arrival rate of 76.9 percent in June.

FAA Proposes $155,000 In Civil Penalties Against American Eagle Airlines

Says Regional Carrier Operated Several Flights Out Of Weight And Balance Parameters

The FAA is proposing $155,000 in civil penalties against American Eagle Airlines of Fort Worth, Texas for allegedly operating eight flights with incorrect weight and balance data, and for using improper maintenance procedures when repairing a jet engine and then operating the aircraft when it was not in compliance with FAA regulations.

First Nation Tribe Deploys Solar-Powered Airfield Lights On Remote Runway

LED Lighting Will Improve Safety At Far North BC Airfield

The Northern Canadian Tsay Keh Dene First Nation is outfitting a remote airfield with solar LED lighting systems provided by Carmanah Technologies. The new airfield lights will help supply and medevac aircraft navigate their way to and from the remote village located on the northern end of the Williston Reservoir, British Columbia. The solar-powered airfield project was one of two projects funded by the Canadian Government’s Innovative Clean Energy Fund.

Becomes The First Airline In Latin America To Receive Performance Improvement Engines

A B737-800NG with the certified performance improvement engines has been delivered by Boeing to low-cost Latin American carrier GOL Airlines. The delivery makes GOL the first airline in Latin America to receive the improved engines. "GOL continues to do everything possible to diminish fuel consumption and emissions, further reducing its operating costs, which are among the lowest in the sector," said Adalberto Bogsan, GOL's Technical vice-president.

Testing Being Conducted In The United Arab Emirates

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 flight prototype SN95005 landed at Ras al-Khaimah (UAE) August 4th to undergo hot soak trails (above +40C). The month-long test program includes extensive ground testing of the engines, APUs, and avionics as well as check flights. The aircraft is equipped with special detecting devices to register the aircraft temperature in different zones.

DOT Fines Two Companies For Violations Of Air Charter Rules

Aviation Advantage And Swift Air Subject To Enforcement Actions

The U.S. DOT has levied fines against two companies for violating the Department’s rules governing charter flights. Aviation Advantage, Inc. (AAI) was assessed a civil penalty of $150,000 and Swift Air, LLC was assessed a civil penalty of $100,000. “Air travelers using charter services have rights, just as those using scheduled airlines do,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement Tuesday.
