NTSB has issued an investigative update for its ongoing investigation of the fatal, Jan. 26, 2020, helicopter crash near Calabasas, California.

The Sikorsky S-76B helicopter collided with hilly terrain and was destroyed by impact forces and fire. The pilot and eight passengers were fatally injured. "Our investigators have already developed a substantial amount of evidence about the circumstances of this tragic crash," said NTSB Chairman Robert L. Sumwalt. "And we are confident that we will be able to determine its cause as well as any factors that contributed to it so we can make safety recommendations to prevent accidents like this from occurring again.” Army aviators are about to get a pay bump. The Department of the Army has announced the implementation of the new Aviation Incentive Pay (AvIP) rates to stay competitive with the civilian aviation industry. Aviation incentives are special pays above base pay to ensure aviators are ready and available for flight duty, regardless of unit of assignment. These rates became effective January 1, 2020. NBAA has just announced the decision to cancel this year's Asian Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (ABACE), given health concerns and other special challenges for event participants, which have arisen in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak. ABACE 2020 was scheduled to take place in Shanghai from April 16-18. In remarking on the decision, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen noted that, "ABACE has always been more than an industry trade show: it is a platform for building business aviation in China, throughout Asia and around the world. NBAA and the Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) have an extraordinarily strong partnership, having worked closely together for nearly a decade, to build ABACE into one of the world's truly great aviation events. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
