President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Elaine Chao, the former Labor Secretary, to be the Secretary of Transportation in his administration.

Chao is the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Prior to taking the Labor Department post, Chao was deputy secretary of transportation under the second President Bush. Trio Avionics, longtime manufacturer of autopilots for the Experimental-Amateur-Built aircraft market, is working with the FAA and a team of industry leaders to develop a supplemental type certificate for its Pro Pilot Autopilot in the Cessna 172 and 182, with other type certificated, production models to follow. The STC Group is seeking approval for the STC using a process similar to one EAA leveraged earlier in 2016 to earn approval to install a Dynon D-10 digital attitude indicator in a variety of light general aviation airplanes. Earlier this week, the World Trade Organization ruled that Boeing had received an illegal subsidy from the State of Washington in the form of a tax break that came as an incentive to keep key assembly work in Washington State. The WTO said that requirement constitutes an illegal subsidy because
it favors the use of domestic over imported goods, and it must be withdrawn "without delay". Airbus called the ruling a "death blow" to Boeing, without bothering to acknowledge that the WTO had ruled against the European planemaker in six other complaints lodged along with the complaint against Boeing. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
