ArkanSTOL Postpones Ozark Backwoods Challenge To 2025

But... Byrd’s Adventure Center Will Offer Alternative Event in '24

The ArkanSTOL organizers tell ANN that the “Ozark Backwoods Challenge” grew from an idea around a campfire to a one-of-a-kind aviation event that has wildly exceeded our expectations.

"We created a truly unique experience and fantastic family in the aviation community, with an all-volunteer staff and leadership team!"

The executive team recognizes the need for a season of recalibration to ensure a robust future for ArkanSTOL and time to develop a more sustainable growth model. Therefore, we have elected to take a one-year pause and not hold the Challenge in 2024. We will continue to support the backcountry flying community as we build our plan for the future. The “Ozark Backwoods Challenge” returns to Byrd’s Adventure Center on September 25 - 27, 2025, with a rested team and rejuvenated event dynamics!

John Young & Rusty Coonfield, Co-Founders of ArkanSTOL emphasize that, “ArkanSTOL and Byrd’s Adventure Center remain committed to creating world-class aviation programs and highlighting the unique skills of backcountry flying in the Ozark Mountains. We would like to thank our entire ArkanSTOL family for their continued support!”

The event folks do add that there will still be some excitement at the 2024 event venue, "...don’t cancel your plans to be at Byrd’s Adventure Center on September 27- 29 this year! The ArkanSTOL team is thrilled to announce that Byrd’s Adventure Center is making their own plans to add more cool offerings to backcountry aviation in Arkansas!"
