Classic Aero-TV: ‘A Dream Come True’ – Zenith’s One-Week-Wonder

From 2014 (YouTube Edition): One of 2014's Most Enjoyable Events Continues To Empower Sport Aviation

Sebastien Heintz, the president and owner of the Zenith Aircraft Company said it was like a dream come true. What he’s talking about in this video is the special event that took place at EAA AirVenture 2014 called, the One Week Wonder.

EAA AirVenture has, for many years, offered training forums covering various subjects in all skill sets needed for home-building an airplane. At EAA AirVenture 2014, a new idea was tried when a building center was established at show center and a kit airplane was completed in one week. The kit airplane being built was a Zenith 750 Cruzer.

Heintz said that about 2500 people participated in building the airplane which was successfully completed in one week. He points out that the obvious goal was to meet the deadline, but the reason for the event goes far beyond that. The purpose was to introduce people to the process of airplane homebuilding who probably never would’ve thought it was something they could actually do.

Heintz said the project was so successful that he is convinced something like this will be tried again at the next EAA AirVenture. He said it won’t be the exactly the same, but he hopes it will achieve the same results. The video has great scenes of the airplane being built and of its final taxi test at the end of the week. The goal was to introduced as many people as possible to aircraft home-building and for Heintz, it was a dream come true.
