Osaka, Japan Opens Drone Museum

Allows Visitors To Explore, Fly UAVs

The city of Osaka, Japan has opened that nation's first drone museum where visitors can explore the history of UAVs, and try their hand at flying them.

The Japan Times reports that the Drone Museum Horie has been opened in conjunction with Skyasky Co, a drone pilot school based on Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture.

The museum has 16 types of drones on display, dating back to the earliest industrial models produced in New Zealand in 2011. It is housed in a 30-foot-high concrete building giving visitors enough room to fly drones indoors. The displays range from tiny 18-gram drones to large industrial agricultural aircraft.

Mei Watanabe, 28, head of the museum, said the museum is located in Minamihorie, where there are many fancy cafes and boutiques. Watanabe said the hope is that people will feel comfortable stopping into the museum and "become more familiar with drones."

Admission to the museum is free.
