Cycle Shop Bomber Sentenced

Gets Up To 45-Years For Dropping Pipe Bomb On Bike Shop

What do you get when you drop a bomb from a general aviation aircraft? In the case of James Edmiston, you get as many as 45-years in a federal prison.

Oh, and you lose your pilot's license.

Edmiston was first stripped of his ticket in 1993, after authorities say he dropped a pipe bomb on the C&C Cycle Shop in Russell, IA. Federal agents picked him up again last year, after alleging he tried again to rent an aircraft.

US Attorney Mark Whitaker said the feds took the case seriously in this post-9/11 environment, even if Edmiston showed no evidence of planning another bombing run.

Edmiston pleaded guilty to non-aviation-related charges in federal court this week. He's scheduled for sentencing on August 19th.
