Lufthansa Flight Training Doubles Simulator Capacity At TFC’s Essen Location

Second A320 FFS Unveiled In Rhine-Ruhr Area

A second Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT) cockpit simulator is now available for pilot training for airlines in the Rhine-Ruhr area that have the Airbus A320 in their fleet. On October 6, 2015, LFT unveiled its second A320 full-flight simulator, which is located at the premises of its cooperation partner TFC GmbH Käufer in Essen, thus doubling its available training capacity. The two LFT A320 devices are the only full-flight simulators in the region certified by the Federal Aviation Office in accordance with EASA standards Level D.

LFT clients whose home airport is in North Rhine-Westphalia or one of Germany’s western neighbors can reach the TFC training center easily, which reduces the travel costs for training their A320 cockpit crews over the long term. “The TFC training center in Essen can be reached quickly and conveniently from the Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn hubs,” says Christoph Lang, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Lufthansa Flight Training. “For airlines headquartered here, this can mean savings of up to 30% for travel costs and pilot deployment days.”

“We are excited about the expansion of the TFC training platform, which will also benefit TFC customers as well as our MPL (multi-crew pilot license) students,” notes Christian Käufer, Managing Director of TFC GmbH Käufer.

The new A320 simulator was previously used at the LFT training center in Berlin. On July 10, 2015, the 12-ton device made the trip by flatbed truck to Essen, where it was then set up in just 12 days. The new device has already seen its first successful round of training: A crew from Lufthansa Group’s Germanwings completed its required refresher course on September 1, 2015.

The airlines that will use the A320 simulator in Essen include among others the airlines Germanwings and Air Berlin, which serve large portions of their routes from the airports in Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf.
