Flyer Beware: Rhode Island Use-Tax Emergency Reg

As If Aviation Wasn't Costly Enough!

Note to ANN Readers With High Blood Pressure... DON'T read this article...

The NBAA sent us an interesting warning. If you are planning to fly to Rhode Island anytime soon, be aware that the state recently has issued an "emergency regulation" that provides that if an aircraft...

(a) stays overnight in Rhode Island, or

(b) makes more than three trips to Rhode Island in one month, or

(c) flies from and to a point within Rhode Island, that aircraft will be subjected to a 7-percent use tax in Rhode Island.

A public hearing will be held in mid-October to determine whether the temporary emergency regulation will be made permanent. As currently drafted, this emergency regulation applies to Rhode Island residents and non-residents alike (companies and individuals) and to all "non-commercial" (business and general aviation) aircraft.
