Body Of Apparent Stowaway Falls From Airplane Approaching Heathrow

Hit The Ground In The Garden Of A London Residence

The body of a person thought to have stowed away in the wheel well of a Kenya Airways airliner fell to the ground on Sunday, landing in the garden of a local London resident.

The BBC reports that the plane was on approach to Heathrow Airport at about 3:40 p.m. local time. The flight had originated in Nairobi. A neighbor who saw the body said it was intact because it was "an ice block." The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said they had spoken to Heathrow, and a spokesperson said such an incident occurs about once every five years.

London Metropolitan Police said that they would investigate the death, but it was not being treated as suspicious. A bag with personal belongings, some water and food were found in the landing gear after the airplane landed.

A spokesperson for Kenya Airways said that 4,250-mile flight takes nearly nine hours. The spokesperson said the airline is "working closely with the relevant authorities in Nairobi and London as they fully investigate this case."
