FAA Considers Plan To Consolidate DC Offices

But Spokesperson Says There Is "No Near-Term Commitment"

The FAA has operations spread over six locations around the D.C. area, but sources say the agency is considering a plan that would bring all of those workers under one roof.

A source not authorized to speak to the media said the FAA is looking at as much as 270,000 square feet of office space. The source mentioned some space that has recently been renovated in the Southwest office building Constitution Center.

But the Washington Post reports that FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown ... who IS authorized to speak to the media ... said that while the agency is considering efficiencies in its operations, there are "no near-term commitments for a consolidated location."

The largest of the FAA's current leases is for 93,000 square feet at 950 L'Enfant Plaza in the District. In all, the agency leases over 287,000 square feet in six buildings. The FAA does have the authority to sign leases on its own rather than going through GSA like most federal agencies.

While there is talk of bringing the agency together in one location, leasing experts told the paper that it's not likely to happen any time soon. One said "It will happen, but they are not on the precipice."
