Daniel Webster College Taps New Aviation Chair

Nashua, NH, College Brings Drew Bedson Aboard

There’s a new Aviation Division chair in town, and his name is John “Drew” Bedson, from Peachtree City, GA. Bedson joined Daniel Webster College last month.

“I was attracted to Daniel Webster by its tradition of excellence and its vision for transformation,” Bedson said. The future for aviation at Daniel Webster is also very bright, he added. “DWC is well regarded in the aviation community. As aviation throughout the world evolves, the College is in a strong position to meet the challenges of training the next generation of controllers, managers, and pilots for both domestic and international operations.”

Bedson brings a broad range of industry professional and educational practice that includes experience in setting the vision for training, the development of courses and materials, the delivery of courses, and the evaluation of the products.

Bedson was most recently senior vice president of Atlantic Southeast Airlines, one of the nation’s largest regional airlines, where he oversaw the development of the vision for training across all operation disciplines, as well as for the development of the hiring models and collegiate ab initio programs.

Since his basic flight instruction in 1975, Bedson has continuously been involved in the education of pilots. He has experience in collegiate education both in the classroom and as a student and instructor evaluator.

Bedson was chief instructor at Ransome Airlines, where he developed advanced procedures, along with the complimentary training. At British Aerospace, he was responsible for the initial training of customers in accordance with the operator’s local regulations. His experience also includes cadre training in accordance with the regulations of CASA (Australia), JAA, Transport Canada, UK CAA, and the US FAA.

Bedson serves a member of the board of the Professional Aviation Board of Certification and was a former member of the CAA Board of Trustees.

Over the past 31 years, Bedson has amassed nearly 5,000 hours as instructor pilot in small and large airlines and has experience as Designated Examiner for US ATP Certificates and DHC-7 Type Ratings, and as Chief Flight Instructor of a Part 141 school with examining authority.

Daniel Webster College's flight training program (professional pilot) is approved under the guidelines of federal Aviation Regulation Parts 141 and 61, and all instructors are Certified Flight Instructors. DWC's air traffic management major is one of only 13 academic programs recognized by the FAA as part of its Collegiate Training Initiative.

Its nationally ranked degree programs in aviation, including an online MBA for aviation professionals, are well complemented by its innovative programs in computer science and information technology (gaming, simulation and robotics), aeronautical and mechanical engineering, sport management, the social and behavioral sciences, and business and management.
