Five Fatally Injured In Canadian Mid-Air

Lake Buccaneer Collided With A PA-28 Saturday

A mid-air collision near St. Brieux in Saskatchewan, Canada on Saturday resulted in the fatal injury of all five people aboard the two aircraft involved.

A man and a woman aboard a Lake Buccaneer was enroute to from Regina to la Gonge, according to a report in the Vancouver Sun. The Piper had three on board, and was traveling from Calgary to St. Brieux. The RCMB said there were no survivors.

The accident was discovered about 0840 local time, according to the RCMP. The two airplanes were found about a half mile apart. One was partially submerged in a slough of water. The other was in a different slough. Authorities said it was determined fairly quickly that the airplane had collided. One witness, said to be a pilot with 30 years flying experience, said wreckage was strewn for a mile around the area.

The accident is under investigation by the RCMP and Transport Canada.
