Airlines, Unwilling to Support More Lawyers, Said to be Slow

World Health Organization Says Airlines Won't Supply Enough Self-Incriminating Data, Fast Enough

The WHO, on a hunt to see if long flights can actually cause DVT, or deep-vein thrombosis, is frustrated at the slow pace of delivery of data, from the airlines they've beseeched.

Sitting immobile for long periods of time, dehydration, and alcohol consumption, all common on airline flights, can all exacerbate the conditions that result in DVT, or what some media wonks call, "economy class syndrome," in their attempt to make a class war out of the issue of the width of the seats in airplanes.

The WHO's research has been slowed by the airlines' lack of urgency in producing data, one researcher reportedly told Reuters. He was quoted as being understanding: "The airlines are not really used to this kind of research. That, combined with a defensive position -- being scared of publicity, lawsuits or losing travelers -- has helped cause delays [in gathering information]."

The IATA says the airlines are doing what they can. [After all, they have to give priority to earning their money --ed.]
