Model Helos Used to Smuggle CellPhones Into Prison

RC Copter Not Big Enough To Get The Prisoners Out, So...

'We Didn't Think They'd Notice...' Four people were arrested outside Brazil's Presidente Venceslau penitentiary in Sao Paulo state, charged with attempting to smuggle cell phones into the prison using a remote-controlled helicopter (file photos, below).

Australia's Sky News reports that police confiscated the helicopter outside the prison. nine cellular phones were in a basket made of a disposable diaper slung under the 3-foot-long aircraft. Police said another 5 phones were in the trunk of the car where the suspects were arrested.

This is not the first attempt to fly cell phones into a Brazilian prison. Phone components were found in a bag attached to the leg of a pigeon captured near a prison in Sorocaba. Cellular telephones have been used by inmates to successfully coordinate criminal activity both inside and outside the prisons.

We can only assume that the suspects thought that they'd have better luck flying the phones in themselves. Apparently they were wrong.
