NASCAR Driver Fatally Injured In CT Accident

Was Aboard A Mooney M20C Airplane Which Went Down Saturday

NASCAR officials have confirmed that modified championship racer Ted Christopher was one of two people fatally injured in an accident in Connecticut on Saturday.

Christopher, 59, was one of two people aboard a Mooney M20C which went down near the border between North Branford and Guilford, CT on Saturday afternoon, according to a report from the Hartford Courant. The other person on board the plane was identified by local officials as 81-year-old Charles Dundas.

The aircraft went down in a wooded area shortly before 1400 local time, according to the report. The first people to arrive at the accident scene, who were residents of the area, described the plane as being "straight up and down" with wreckage strewn through the woods. Another resident said that one person had been ejected from the plane by the impact.

Local authorities did not offer any information about who was flying the aircraft, or there it was headed when the accident occurred. There was no indication of a post-impact fire or explosion.

Christopher was known as one of the top short-track drivers in the country over the past 20 years.
