AD NUMBER: 2011-03-10

MANUFACTURER: Airbus Model A330-200 and -300 and A340-200 and -300 Series Airplanes
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2011-03-10

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

A debonding area was detected on the RH [right-hand] elevator of an A340 in-service aeroplane during a scheduled maintenance task inspection.

Investigation has revealed that this debonding may have been caused by water ingress and, if not detected and corrected, might compromise the structural integrity of the elevators [and could result in reduced controllability of the airplane].
