Aspen Avionics Showcases First Helicopter Installation

Aspen has gotten a lot of notice for what they've added to countless airplane cockpits this year, but now they're taking a bow for their first helo installation. The first Evolution Flight Display System to do helo duty has been installed in a Dale County Sheriff’s chopper located in Ozark, Alabama.

It is the first installation of an EFD1000H Pro Primary Flight Display (PFD) and an EFD1000H Multi-Function Display (MFD) into an operational helicopter. The Bell OH-58 helicopter, a military version of the Bell 206, is used by the department in regular airborne law enforcement activities.

“Aspen’s entry into the rotary wing market has been eagerly anticipated by a large number of local-government operators,” said John Uczekaj, President and CEO of Aspen Avionics. “We’re pleased that our first OH-58 installation is in an aircraft that provides critical services to Dale County, while also increasing the safety of the helicopter’s crew.”

“Aspen Avionics has by far surpassed any expectations I had for pilot situational awareness in the cockpit,” said Tim McDonald, Chief Deputy and Chief Pilot for Dale County Sheriff’s Office. “The Aspen provides the most concise, compact, and easily readable system that I’ve come across. The system was very easy to install – very little if any modification was required for our instrument panel.”
