Birmingham, UK Rioters Fired At Police Helicopter Last Year

Closed Circuit TV Footage Shown To Jury During Trial

In the early morning hours of August 10th, 2011, a gunman fired shots at a police helicopter during riots in Birmingham, UK, according to images pulled from closed circuit TV cameras.

The incident happened in the Aston area of Birmingham. Six men and two teenagers are on trial, answering to charges in Birmingham Crown Court of riot and reckless arson. They have denied all of the charges

According to a BBC report, 20-year-old Tyrone Laidey fired the shots at the police helo. The CCTV footage shows a man dropping to one knee and taking aim at the aircraft during the riot. Multiple shots were fired, which prosecutor Andrew Lockhart told the court have been scientifically proven to have come from four different guns. No one was injured in the shootings.

Police officers also described bricks and chairs being thrown at them near a pub called Bartons Arms in Newton several hours before the shootings occurred.
