Building The Future... CAF Ray Scholar Jason Morales Solos

We LOVE Stories Like This

CAF Cadet Jason Morales soloed last month, on March 19, at HCH Aviation in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Morales is the 7th CAF Ray Foundation Scholar to achieve this goal. Morales is a member of the Houston Wing and is being mentored by CAF Colonel Matt Brozstowski.

As part of the CAF Ray Scholarship program, Morales can receive up to $12,000 to cover his flight training through the CAF’s mentorship program, which is sponsored by the Ray Foundation. Morales, also attending Stephen F. Austin University’s flight program, has been able to go through the process quickly. His check ride is scheduled for June.

Jason Morales has been a CAF Cadet since 2020 and has actively participated in several projects at the Houston Wing, including leading the Aero L-39 Albatross cockpit static display project. In 2023, he was awarded the Houston Wing Cadet Leadership award and has been an example to younger cadets joining the Units.

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) announced a new Pilot Scholarship Program in 2023. This program, supported by the Ray Foundation, allows students ages 16 through 19 to earn their private pilot licenses at little to no cost. The program works by providing the scholar access to experienced mentors, establishing a rigorous timeline, and providing financial assistance. The program’s timeline is set for attaining the license in one year. For the CAF Pilots Scholarship program, the scholars selected will need to be active students within the CAF Unit and have an endorsement from the Unit to participate, as well as a CAF Unit member who can serve as a mentor through the process.
