Pilot Orders Pizzas For Passengers

Plane Had Been Sitting On The Tarmac For Over Two Hours

It had all the makings of one of those nightmare scenarios. Plane sitting on the tarmac as the clock ticked past two hours; passengers packed in unable to get off ... and nothing to eat on board.

The flight,  Frontier Airlines 719, originated at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC headed for Denver. But the weather turned sour at the destination, and the plane was put in a holding pattern over western Nebraska. Fuel became critical, and the flight landed at Cheyenne Regional Airport in Wyoming. Then, the waiting began.

The captain, who has not been named, decided that he needed to try to make things a little better for the 160 people in the back of a hot plane hoping to get to Denver. Passenger Logan Marie Torres told television station KDVR that the captain came on the intercom to say "Ladies and gentleman, Frontier Airlines is known for being one of the cheapest airlines in the US, but your captain is not cheap. I just ordered pizza for the entire plane."

The order turned out to be for 35 pies that were delivered to the airplane on the airport tarmac and handed out by the flight attendants. The passengers were, understandably, pleased.

Shortly after dinner was served, the plane was able to depart Cheyenne at about 10:30 pm local time, and arrived in Denver about midnight ... nearly five hours after its scheduled arrival.
