Chris Horsten, Kanardia Avionics, Shares Innovative Product Line With ANN

Chris Horsten, the Canadian Dealer for Kanardia Avionics spent some time chatting with ANN about their innovative product line.

“Kanardia has been around about fifteen years, they were more predominantly in Europe although a lot of their stuff was making it over here, to aircraft like Pipestrel, a lot of the gyro manufacturers, and gliders were heavy users, light sport aircraft is probably the best target market we have.” Horsten reveals. “If you are just a daytime VFR kind of guy, this is probably the good stuff for you.”

Horsten shares that the simplicity of hooking up the Kanardia systems are unmatched. Kanardia Avionics have been designed specifically to simplify the installation process, in a competitive price range.

The interface is ideal for users that want to upgrade but don’t want to cut a whole new panel, as the line includes round instruments.

Something unique Horsten shares with ANN is that Kanardia has its own stick.

“All the buttons are custom, configurable, control your screen, trim, flaps, push to talk, you can activate cameras, whatever you want to do, it's all in there. We also have an autopilot, it's so easy to add an autopilot to this,” he explains.  “The software is already built in, you can run it completely within this panel, or you can even add our autopilot head and get some direct control, some people like that, but you don’t have to. Everything connects with an ethernet cable, or a CAT5 cable, so there is no wiring harness to manage.”

The system has a standalone engine monitor, called the Digi, which costs $1,119. This equipment functions as a data collection box and a screen. All engine monitoring units are sold as kits which include the engine monitoring box specific to your engine. Kanardia offers an app on their website where you can drag the instruments onto the screen that you want, configure all their parameters, and then upload through bluetooth to the screen. After installation, it's ready to go.
