From Ducktown to Shadow of Pike's Peak: Blue Mountain Moves

Blue Mountain Avionics, LLC (BMA) has announced the location of its headquarters at the old Colorado Springs Airport Terminal.

BMA specializes in "glass cockpit" systems, which display all aircraft instruments, engine data and map information for the pilot. This technology reduces the pilot’s workload, improving overall safety and efficiency. Terrain maps and 3D forward-looking terrain images are unique to BMA products.

Due to production costs this technology has previously been limited to use primarily in commercial aircraft. Greg Richter, Owner and Founder of BMA, says he has designed and tested the first affordable glass cockpit for the general aviation market. During the first full year of operation, over 200 systems were sold, resulting in sales revenue of $2.75 million.

According to Malcolm Thomson, Chief Executive Officer, "Colorado Springs offers a wealth of aviation related resources and has an extensive pool of trained personnel from both high-tech industries and retiring military personnel. We have received help and support from many resources including the Greater Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation, the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator, Colorado Springs Airport and the City of Colorado Springs. The standard of living and the quality of life here in Colorado Springs is second to none. A pro-business climate and traditional values attract families and professionals who want to live and work in a fun, safe and beautiful community. This is an ideal environment in which to grow our business."

Blue Mountain Avionics currently employs twelve and expects to grow to about twenty employees in Colorado Springs, with further growth anticipated if Federal Aviation Administration approval is obtained for BMA products to be used in certified aircraft. The Colorado Springs headquarters will be used to expand operations and relocate some existing functions from Tennessee.

"Blue Mountain Avionics, at the forefront of elegant low cost piloting information solutions for the general aviation market, is a most welcome addition to the community’s aviation industry base. Colorado Springs is an ideal location for the growth of avionics related businesses with its historically strong electronics and aerospace industry base. We congratulate Malcolm Thomson and his team on another terrific project for Colorado Springs," commented Rocky Scott, President of The Greater Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation. Blue Mountain had been headquartered in Ducktown, Tennessee.
