Classic Aero-TV: Starting 'em Young - Aero-Education for K-12 Students

From 2016 (YouTube Version): The Aspen Aerospace Alliance Motivate Students towards STEM Subjects…

Here’s a video that runs a little longer than our normal Aero-Minute because it’s a subject that’s fascinating and could make a difference in the lives of children in our school systems. This video is about an organization called the ‘Aspen Aerospace Alliance’ that has set a goal to bring aviation into the lives of schoolchildren ranging from elementary through high school.

ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, finds out about this fascinating organization by talking with its founder and CEO, Greg Roark. While the name of the organization is based on its origin in Aspen, Colorado, the work the organization is involved in extends far beyond their home location.

Their program involves establishing career pathways into aviation starting in the third grade. For example, one path is for the development of professional pilots were a goal would be for a student to graduate from high school as a multiengine commercial pilot. Another pathway promotes the engineering side of aviation, which actually involves participating in the building of an aircraft.

A third pathway is aimed at educators so that these programs can be extended beyond the beginning point in Aspen. The video is detailed and is a must view for anyone who cares about bringing future generations into aviation and aerospace.

The Aspen Aerospace Alliance was recently featured on Redbird Flight’s Winging It, in an episode titled, ‘Around The World In Two Days.’ Be sure to go check it out after you watch this video!
