OOPS! Delta Mixes Paperwork, Sends Kids To Wrong Destinations

Airline Has Apologized For The Mixup

It's really every parent's nightmare. Two children traveling as unaccompanied minors on Delta Airlines wound up at the wrong destination after what the airline called a "paperwork mixup." Thursday found the airline apologizing to both families.

The two kids, who are not related and were on separate itineraries, were connecting through Minneapolis/St. Paul when the problem arose. The Associated Press reports that the 9-year-old boy headed for Boston landed in Cleveland instead, and a girl going to Cleveland wound up in Boston. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says both were traveling as unaccompanied minors, a service offered by most airlines.

Neither child has been identified citing privacy concerns. The boy was going to visit his grandparents in Boston from his home in Spokane, WA. His grandfather did not take the news well, telling the Minneapolis Star Tribune "I know mistakes happen, the this shouldn't have."

Delta has apologized for the incident, and says it quickly rectified the problem, getting both kids to their ultimate destinations. They flew the additional legs at no cost, and USA Today reports that the airline gave the families full refunds for the tickets, as well as credits for future travel ... along with the apologies.
