F-16 Makes Emergency Landing In Arizona

Pilot Ejected During Runway Excursion, Survived The Accident

An F-16C assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing diverted and attempted to land at Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport, Lake Havasu City, AZ. at approximately 10:35 a.m. Tuesday during a routine training flight.

During landing the aircraft departed the prepared surface and the pilot ejected from the aircraft. The pilot was found to be in good condition, but was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center as a precautionary matter. He was released later that same day.

Personnel from Luke Air Force Base have begun the process of recovering the aircraft.  An interim safety investigation board has been established for the incident and will conduct a full investigation.

Flying operations at Luke Air Force Base resumed Tuesday afternoon after pausing for several hours.
