Airborne 10.13.21: HondaJet 2600!, Electric DA40!, Jaunt Air Joins Airo

Also: New Radar Altimeters, Net-Zero Pledge, SmartSky Networks, ThrustSense Autothrottle Deliveries

Honda Aircraft took the wraps off their new "HondaJet 2600 Concept”, at a special event hosted by Honda Aircraft Company at NBAA 2021 where the displayed a mockup.

The HondaJet 2600 Concept inherits Honda’s Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration, Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) technology on wings and fuselage nose, and carbon composite fuselage. What might it do? The HJ2600 has a range of 2,625 nautical miles, and also features a high speed cruise of 450 knots and a ceiling of 47,000 feet. Diamond Aircraft’s experimentation with electric aircraft began a decade ago, when they unveiled their hybrid DA36 E-Star, a modified HK36 motor glider. Its sequel arrived two years later, with the E-Star 2, sporting increased payload and performance. Continued collaboration with corporate partner Siemens brought the HEMEP, their hybrid-electric multi engine. After years of development, Diamond feels confident that technology has matured enough to offer their first fully-electric general aviation trainer: The eDA40. Jaunt Air Mobility has announced its upcoming merger with the AIRO group, a composite of six aerospace businesses focused in the AAM market. The group offers commercial, robotics, unmanned systems, and multi-modal aircraft and avionics under its umbrella. Jaunt has found its niche in the global eVTOL AAM market, using its patented Slow Rotor Compound (SRC) technology. SRC slows the rotation of the rotor once aloft, reducing drag, vibration, and noise while in cruise. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
