Polish Airline LOT Cancels Dreamliner Flight

Postpones A Second After Discovering Technical Issues With 787

The Polish airline LOT cancelled one of its Dreamliner flights to Chicago Wednesday when a "technical problem" cropped up in the airplane's power system. A second flight, this one to Toronto, was postponed due to unrelated problems.

LOT was the first European carrier to take delivery of Boeing's new airliner. An airline spokeswoman said that the Toronto flight departed Thursday morning after the issue with a "tracking system" was resolved, according to a report appearing in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The Chicago flight was cancelled entirely.

Barbara Pijanowska-Kuras said that the problems were both "minor," and not linked to the battery systems that have recently been replaced in the airplanes.

LOTs four Dreamliners make several overseas flights per week to destinations in the U.S., Canada, and China, Pijanowska-Kuras said. The airline is currently in discussions with Boeing concerning compensation for lost revenue during the period that the airplanes were grounded to resolve the battery issue.
