Ansett Aviation Names Scholarship Winners for 2024

Cool Training Program Equips Low-Time Pilots with Real-World Tools to Succeed

Ansett Aviation Training announced the winners of its 2024 pilot scholarship program, prepping local aviators for the industry to come.

The winners of the 2024 round are Daniel Mitchell Waller and Damian Verbakel, two "outstanding individuals" that have "demonstrated exceptional dedication, skill, and passion in aviation." The scholarship provides each student with 'comprehensive training at Ansett Aviation's state-of-the-art facilities, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge from our team of seasoned aviation professionals.'

Ansett's scholarship isn't just the usual zero-to-hero program that takes in new kids to give them a Private Pilot rating, but one specifically made to bolster the numbers of Australian workin' folk on the frontier. Ansett's scholarship gives them room & board while they work on the Beechcraft Super King Air B200 rating, enabling them to immediately find a career amongst the far flung settlements that dog the Australian outback. Applicants are drawn from those with an Australian commercial or ATP license, an instrument rating, and a completed PXS/GTE Theory examination, and at least 1,000 hours of total flight time in their logbook. The course takes 12 working days, with Verbakel and Waller on track to chug through all the necessary book study and ground school, hone their skills in the King Air simulator, and eventually cap it all off with a checkride. King Air time ain't cheap, of course, so they won't get to joyride after their endorsement - just proving they got the skills for 3 take-offs and landings to finalize the type rating.

Future applicants can keep an eye out for the 2025 Ansett Scholarship, which should open applications early next spring in preparation for selections after the 1st week of March.
