Blue Origin, SpaceX Scrub Launches In The Same Hour

Both Companies Experienced Technical Issues

SpaceX and Blue Origin nearly launched rockets on the same day Tuesday ... but neither mission got off the ground.

CNet reports that Blue Origin was scheduled to launch a suborbital flight with multiple NASA-backed experiments from its launch complex is Texas, while SpaceX was planning to carry a new GPS satellite into orbit for the USAF from Cape Canaveral in Florida. Both flights were cancelled within about a half hour of one another.

For SpaceX, the problem was due to "an out of family reading on first stage sensors," the company said in a Tweet. "Vehicle and payload remain healthy; next launch attempt is tomorrow at 9:07 EST, 14:07 UTC."

That would be Wednesday morning. The Florida weather is forecast to be fairly nice Wednesday.

The announcement came shortly after this Tweet from Blue Origin: "We are scrubbing today’s #NewShepard launch due to a ground infrastructure issue. The vehicle is in good standing. Stand by for updates as we see what weather looks like for tomorrow."

The National Weather Service is forecasting a nice day in Van Horn, TX as well.

SpaceX is launching the GPS III SVO1 satellite atop a new Block 5 Falcon 9 booster. The company does not plan to recover the first stage of the rocket, which will fall into the Atlantic Ocean. Blue Origin will land its New Shepard booster back at its west Texas launch facility after its mission.
