Lear 35 Down Near Teterboro Airport

FAA Says Airplane Was Arriving From Philadelphia

A Lear 35 has gone down in a residential neighborhood near Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.

The FAA released a statement that was posted on Twitter by user @DanLinden confirming the accident. "A Learjet 35 crashed on approach to Runway 1 at Teterboro Airport at 3:30 (EDT) today. The aircraft went down about 1/4 mile from the airport in a residential area.

"The flight departed from Philadelphia International Airport and was headed to Teterboro. The FAA is enroute to the scene.

"Local Authorities will release information about people on board the aircraft. We will update this statement when we get new information," the agency said.

There is currently no information about how many people were on board the aircraft. Photos of the scene show a large plume of smoke just beyond the runway threshold off airport property.

Television Station WNBC reports that several buildings were on fire in  Carlstadt, NJ as a result of the accident. A witness said "there is nothing left of the airplane."
