Strike Force Trident have arrested two females and four male youths following the theft of a vehicle in Palmerston and an attempted unlawful entry in Noonamah. Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said it is alleged that early this morning a residence in Driver was unlawfully entered by unknown individuals and subsequently a Mazda 2 hatchback was stolen.

“The vehicle was then driven out to Noonamah by a number of youths, where it was set alight near Jenkins road, resulting in a small scrub fire.

“It is alleged that the youths then attempted to unlawfully enter a residence in Noonamah before being disturbed by the owner, who contacted Police.

“The resident, who owns a helicopter, notified Police that the youths had fled into scrub land and that he was able to track them with the use of his helicopter.

“Police attended and with the help of his eyes in the sky, all six youths were apprehended.

The youths aged between nine and 14 are currently in custody assisting Police with their enquires. Charges are expected at a later time.

“This is a fantastic result combining Northern Territory Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Bushfires NT and public assistance in locating and swiftly apprehending these offenders,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
