Banyan Air Begins SAF Distribution in Florida

New AvFuel Supply Points Fleshes Out Network of Sustainable Fueling Options

Banyan Air Service rolled out Sustainable Aviation Fuel to its Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport location, bringing the eco-friendly fueling option to Southern Florida through a deal with AvFuel.

The SAF supplied comes from AvFuel’s new distribution point at Port Everglades, opened in January of this year. The fuel delivered is a blended combination of 70% traditional petroleum-based jet and 30% SAF from alternate sources. The resultant mix meets ASTM D-1655 specifications, making sure clients get the same reliable performance as any other jet fuel. Banyan advertises the overall environmental benefits gleaned from SAF use, reiterating the factoid that unblended, pure sustainable fuel could cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%.

While it may not seem like the biggest deal in the world today, the industry is looking far into the future, when things could easily progress to painful anti-aviation crackdowns. Even moves like this, with a mere 30% of synthesized fuel, starts laying the foundation for what’s to come, showing stakeholders that aviation is content to clean up its own messes. Port Everglades is only one of a handful of brand-new SAF supply terminals to support rollout on the East Coast, picking up the slack after years of SAF rollouts out West.

“Offering SAF is a monumental step for Banyan and the aviation community at FXE,” said Banyan Air Service COO Jon Tonko. “As the most effective way to reduce the environmental footprint of aviation today, SAF aligns with Banyan’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and supporting our customers in their efforts to fly greener.”

We have high expectations for SAF volumes in 2025,” said C.R. Sincock, II, Avfuel’s executive vice president earlier this year. Banyan’s Fort Lauderdale SAF is just another in a line of expected releases. “These new supply points are integral to meeting or exceeding those expectations. No longer is SAF landlocked in the West. With the addition of these terminals—particularly those in New Jersey and Florida—we’ve vastly expanded our supply chain infrastructure to significantly enhance SAF’s accessibility.”
