Sun 'n Fun Home Sees Grown-Up Airline Service
Avelo Airlines will be opening a route between Lakeland International Airport (LAL) and Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
With the new route, Avelo has become the first, and now only airline to serve the airport in more than 10 years. Lakeland offers a few travel benefits that make it a well-placed, central Florida hub. The nearby I-4 corridor and Americana vibe combine to make it a "refreshingly small, easy, and fast alternative to the much larger and busier airports in the region." The route will be run twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, using Avelo's new Boeing 737s. Introductory rates will see tickets between New Haven and Lakeland start at $72.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Lakeland – say hello to Avelo! We’re proud to be the only airline serving LAL and are excited to introduce Lakeland to Avelo’s low fares, travel-friendly convenience, and industry-leading reliability. Getting to Southern Connecticut – the gateway to New England and New York – is now easier than ever. This exclusive nonstop service will also make exploring Central Florida – and all Lakeland has to offer – a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut visitors. I am grateful to all the airport and community leaders who made this partnership possible. This is just the start of Avelo’s partnership with LAL and Central Florida.”
“The City of Lakeland welcomes an exciting new era of travel with the announcement of Avelo Airlines offering commercial air service to and from Lakeland International Airport," added City of Lakeland Mayor Bill Mutz. "This service from Lakeland opens up a world of increasing possibilities for our regional citizens. We anticipate a thriving partnership with Avelo Airlines, providing many adventures ahead!”
