WAI Says Yes To Junior Members

Women In Aviation International (WAI) Adds Junior Membership To Attract Youth

Earlier today, the Women In Aviation International (WAI) announced some changes to its membership classification, to simplify for existing members and encourage youth under 18 years of age to join.

Molly Martin, Director of Member Engagement at WAI sees these changes as pivotal to expanding their membership and global reach.

Effective 1 June 2022, some of the changes we can expect to see include: members 18 years of age and younger to receive free membership; international and domestic membership is the same ($44/year auto-renewal or $49 for a year; additional members in the same household can be added for about 35% of individual membership; full-time enrolled students get a 50% break; lifetime membership (regardless of age) is $1500 and spouse can add-on for $300; corporate membership (for up to 5) is $500/year.

WAI membership is open to pilots, mechanics, enthusiasts, and businesses regardless of gender since its founding in 1990 by Dr. Peggy Chabrian, its long-time president and CEO who retired in 2019. Whereas, the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots, perhaps the oldest organization for women pilots in the world since its founding on 1 November 1929 by 99 of the women pilots who had assembled at the time. It is only open to women pilots, with non-pilots and others able to join as ‘Friends Of the Ninety-Nines.’  Both organizations offer fellowship, networking, and scholarships, and engage in activities throughout the year to engage youth and further interest in aviation.
