More Dominos To Fall? October Airshow Cancelled

Lancaster Show At Fox Field Is Rescheduled for 2022

A resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic causes the air show planned for October 23 and 24 at Gen. William J. Fox Field in Lancaster to be canceled. The group detailed out the difficult decision on their website but has hope for later events, “Cancellation is the best course of action to preserve the opportunity to put on a successful event in the future.”

“There was just no way at this point that we could put on a show of the caliber we’d want,” Air Show Director Dennis Dunbar said Friday after the cancellation was announced on the show’s Facebook page.

“There was no one ‘golden BB.’ It was a combination of factors,” he notes.

Dunbar has been a key player in the beginning years of the grassroots LA County Air Show, which had previously taken place at the Fox Field from 2014-2018.

LA County announced July 2 that the AirDotShow Live Tour would have its 2021 tour finale at the LA Air Show at Fox Field. The show was set to be the first show since 2018, after the cancellation of the March 2020 show due to COVID.

Over the five years that the show has taken place, the program included performances by the Navy’s Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbird teams. Also included were warbirds, aerobatics, and demos of current military aircraft.

Those who have bought tickets or sponsorships will be automatically refunded, no action is needed on their end.

According to the team’s website, the Thunderbirds are still scheduled to headline the Aerospace Valley Air Show at Edwards Air Force Base in October 2022.
