Aero-TV: Diamond’s Next Generation – The DA62 and Beyond!

An Exciting Development For GA Personal and Business Travel Comes From One of The Most Innovative GA Manufacturers Extant

At NBAA2015 it’s easy to become enamored with the lineup of sleek jets. However, there’s more to it than that, and Diamond Aircraft had their new DA62 reciprocating twin-engine airplane on display, and it got a lot of attention. ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, talked with Peter Maurer, the President of Diamond Aircraft Industries about their new aircraft.

Maurer said this new aircraft is targeted at the pilot owner who is already flying a high-performance airplane but wants to add the performance and safety provided by the twin-engine design. The DA62 certainly breaks the mold from the light twins that have come to us from the 1960s and 70s. However, because it can seat up to six people, he certainly doesn’t rule out its use in the charter business.

A key feature of the DA62 is that it uses diesel engines which are very happy burning jet fuel. In the video, Maurer gives some background information about the development of the engine and how well its application seems to be for this airplane. It’s a twin-engine airplane that clocks out at about 200 knots at about 16 gallons of fuel per hour…watch the video to find out how they did that!

As Jim moves the conversation into production quantities and availability in the U.S., he also picks up more information about the other Diamond Aircraft products. This video provides a great introduction to a new airplane and to a product line that is gaining more popularity in the U.S.
