GAMA Accepting Scholarship Applications From High School Students

Applications Due By April 13

GAMA is now taking applications for its prestigious Edward W. Stimpson “Aviation Excellence” Award, which comes with a $2,000 cash prize.

The award is named for founder and past president of GAMA, Edward W. Stimpson. Given annually, the scholarship goes to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to and will be enrolled in an aviation degree core program at a university or college of his or her choice. Applicants are judged on the basis of academic skills, extracurricular activities and an essay on what aviation means to the student and how he or she plans to pursue an aviation career.

The student must be graduating from high school in the spring of 2018 and be accepted at an institution with an aviation degree core program, including flight training, management, aerospace education, maintenance technician, airway science, etc. Only senioryear applicants are eligible.

Academic - 30%: Applicant must have a 3.0 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Please submit the most recent transcript with the application.

Extra-curricular activities - 20%: Service and contributions to school and community.

Essay Question - 50%: Applicant must submit a 750-word typed, double-spaced essay explaining what aviation means to him or her and why he or she is choosing to pursue a career in aviation.

Applications are due by April 13, 2018. Nominations will be accepted from high schools across the U.S. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted by each school. One applicant will be chosen for the award.
