United CEO Recovering From Heart Transplant

Company Says Oscar Munoz May Be Back To Work In Three Months

United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz (pictured) has a new heart.

The company said in a statement released Wednesday that the CEO, who has been on medical leave since October, "underwent a heart transplant operation early today and is in recovery. A transplant was considered the preferred treatment and was not the result of a setback in his recovery.

"The United team wishes Oscar well during his recovery, and expects him to return to United at the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter."

The airline announced in October that Munoz had suffered a heart attack and would be taking medical leave from his position. Brett J. Hart was named acting CEO of the company.

No further details were released by the company, which said it would provide additional information as it became available.
