Aero-TV: Recapping ANN's Live Coverage Of AirVenture 2011, 07.27.11, Day Three

Nearing The Half-Way Point Of The Greatest Airshow Over Earth!

Welcome to our Wednesday wrap up of the latest news from AirVenture, 2012. The rains finally came to Oshkosh, and the day dawned grey, promising off-and-on showers through the day. But the less than perfect weather did not dampen the spirits of those who came to Wittman Field at mid week, and the attendance was robust, if not record breaking.

Hilton Software gave us an update on their popular WingX app for the Apple iPad this afternoon. WingX Pro brings moving maps with seamless sectionals, IFR enroute charts, approach charts, TFR's, TAF's, NexRad, Metar's, Pirep's, and Airmets on a basic subscription. Geo-referenced approach charts, the synthetic vision database, and the fuel database each require an additional fee.

Author, CFI, and ATP Julie Filucci was joined by former Cessna CEO Jack Pelton on a rainy Wednesday morning at AirVenture to sign copies of her new book "Together We Fly: Voices From the DC-3." Pelton wrote the forward for the Book.

The Tom Wathen Foundation is concerned about the future of aviation and came to AirVenture to announce three new initiatives in their mission to improve education through aviation. As many of us know, Tom Wathen saved the historic Flabob Airport in Riverside, California, and established the Flabob Aviation Academy, an aviation high school located at the Airport, also home to EAA Chapter One.

Leaders from seven aviation industry organizations sat together at the EAA Welcome Center this afternoon to discuss critical concerns on the Federal and State legislative fronts that, cumulatively, present some of the greatest threats the aviation industry has ever faced.

Daher-Socata celebrated its historic 100th anniversary with several notable exhibits at EAA AirVenture 2011. The company known today as Daher-Socata is descended from the Aeroplane Morane-Saulnier company, founded in 1911. Part of the celebration is the presentation of a replica of the Morane-Saulnier Type L, an iconic design representative of those early years.

Those are some of the stories making news at AirVenture 20-11 this Wednesday, July 27th... in addition to these stories, we're also proud to present Paul Plack's will chat with Kestrel Aircraft's Adrian Norris -- Live from Wittman Field.
