All-Wing Aircraft Start-Up to Construct its First Manufacturing Facility in Greensboro

California-based aerospace start-up JetZero has formally selected Greensboro, North Carolina, as the site for its first US factory. This will be used to manufacture the company’s ‘all-wing’ aircraft: the Z4.

The Z4 was specifically designed to cut fuel consumption, using an impressively low-drag and lightweight airframe that claims to be 50% more efficient than conventional airliners. This allows it to offer a 5,000 nautical mile range and accommodate 250 passengers.

The industry has seen just how promising JetZero’s design is, with the US Air Force awarding it a $235 million contract in 2023 to fast-track the development of a full-scale Z4 demonstrator. United Airlines also signed a conditional purchase agreement with the company in April that opens a path to order up to 100 airplanes with an option for an additional 100.

JetZero has been making steady progress with the Z4, and now needs the infrastructure to bring it to life. It began looking for the best location to construct a highly advanced manufacturing and final assembly facility, and recently announced that Greensboro, North Carolina, was its perfect match.

The new facility will be on theme for JetZero, using the latest and greatest digital tools and artificial intelligence to keep costs and efficiency reasonable. It will be located on the grounds of Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) and create upwards of 14,500 jobs for the region.

Once the factory is at full run rate, slated for the late 2030s, it should be able to churn out up to 20 Z4 jets per month. Construction is set to begin in the first half of 2026, allowing deliveries to begin in the early 2030s.
