Pizzas Delivered To Delayed Airline Passengers

Creates Airline Pizza Party For Delta Passengers Diverted To Tennessee Due To Bad Weather

Marco's Pizza Store Manager Ashley Akins has delivered pizzas to all kinds of locations, but never before to a Delta airplane full of passengers, until last Tuesday. But the 40 pizzas she delivered delighted passengers, turning a common air travel delay into an on-board celebration.

After taking off from Philadelphia, the Delta flight was diverted from its original destination of Atlanta to Knoxville, TN due to bad weather. That's when the Delta flight crew ordered up the Marco's pizzas from Akins' store. "I was a bit taken back at first," said Akins. "We never delivered pizzas for airline passengers before, but it sounded like a great idea – an airline pizza party. My focus was getting the 40 pizzas done fast so that we could boast an 'on-time' delivery."

Delta's flight crew ordered the Marco's pizzas as part of a company-wide initiative to provide food and beverages to passengers when weather disrupts its airline's operations. The torrential rain in Atlanta, which is Delta's hub, caused 106 cancellations and 653 flight delays last Tuesday.
