Chinese Company Flies Large Unmanned Helicopter

V750 Reportedly Intended For Military And Civilian Use

The largest unmanned helicopter to be built in China conducted a successful first flight Saturday. The V750, built by Weifang Tianziang Aerospace Industry flew to an altitude of 82 feet during its initial flight.

Official Chinese news sources report through various English language media that the aircraft has a projected maximum speed of about 87 knots, a service ceiling of about 10,000 feet and a range of some 300 miles. Weifang CEO Cheng Shenzong called the aircraft "groundbreaking," and said that it was intended for "surveillance, search and rescue, and scientific exploration in both military and civilian purposes."

The aircraft has a payload of about 176 pounds, which would allow it to carry radar and high-definition camera equipment. It can be controlled by a pilot on the ground, or perform autonomous flight via profiles uploaded to its internal memory.
