Thousands Stranded! Jetsgo Ceases Operation

Canada's Troubled Airline Closes Doors

Jetsgo ceased operations Friday morning, leaving 17,000 travelers stranded. The Montreal based company was the third largest airline in Canada.

"Passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements prior to going to the airport as there will be no Jetsgo staff or aircraft available," said Jetsgo in a statement issued to the media.

The Federal Transport Minister stated that no federal refunds would be available for passengers affected by this action. He encouraged other carriers to add more capacity, but pointed out that they do not have to accept Jetsgo tickets.

One of Jetsgo's biggest competitors, WestJet, said that they'd do the best they can to take care of stranded passengers. WestJet Operations Vice President, Tim Morgan, said "I certainly think we're going to do whatever we can to make sure we accommodate everybody we possibly can."

WestJet is offering $35 standby tickets to stranded crew members of Jetsgo on their website. They're also offering special confirmed fares to other travelers.

This couldn't have come at a worse time, for many. This is a busy time period for Canadian airlines as people were traveling for spring break. A spokesman for Air Canada said it would be difficult to find extra seats for passengers.
